Why We Study the Cell and Its Components. free essay sample

Why We Study the Cell and Its Components The cell is the most basic form of life essentially. Anything that is living fundamentally is composed of cells. We study the cell because it is the simplest unit of all living organisms and to begin understanding life, we must realize the cell’s structure, whether it is about the different types of cells or how the cell functions. Biology is the study of life and for the human species; the cell is the most basic principle of life, which is why it is so important to understand the complexities of cells. There are two basic categories of that all cells fall under. They are prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic cells are single-celled organisms that include bacteria and archaea. Eukaryotic cells are more complex cells that include protists, plants, fungi, and animals. The major difference of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells is that prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus and eukaryotic cells do. We will write a custom essay sample on Why We Study the Cell and Its Components. or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Prokaryotic cells are also a lot smaller than eukaryotic cells, usually about 1/10 of the size of eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic cells are the oldest primitive form of life through findings of fossils by scientists. Both types of cells reproduce, but each have a different process of reproduction. Prokaryotic cells reproduce through a process called binary fission and eukaryotic cells reproduce through a process called mitosis. DNA structures of eukaryotic cells are far more structured than that of prokaryotic cells. The DNA of eukaryotic cells is organized into chromosomes and the DNA of prokaryotic cells is a single loop. Both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells gain the energy it needs to develop and maintain functionality by a process of cellular respiration. Basically, cellular respiration is broken down in three general phases: electron transport, glycolysis, and the citric acid cycle. In eukaryotic cells, cellular respiration usually reacts within the mitochondria; and in prokaryotic cells, cellular respiration occurs in the cytoplasm and/or within the cell membrane. With understanding the basics principles of life we can better evolve as a species. The importance of how a cell functions is the foundation of what life is made of. We as a human species are always fighting diseases and learning how to upgrade our health. To accomplish this, medical technology relies so much on cellular biology. It is the essence of our health and the human species depend on the knowledge we gain from cellular research. Without understanding the composition of the cell, how would we know where to look or start to combat the viruses and bacteria that kills the life of the human species? That is why it is so critical to our population to further our knowledge of cellular biology. The future of the human species, as well as, every living species known is depending on the research of cells. The better we can understand what makes up the cell and what will deteriorate the cell, the better we will survive as a species. Imagine a world with perfect health and being able to resist harmful bacteria that viruses have. We would then value life so much more and will advance as a species to its fullest potential. In Europe, a group of researchers began the study of a robotic cell. A robotic cell is an artificial cell that can replicate on its own and even evolve under specific conditions. The only way to achieve such a remarkable task would be to first understand completely how a cell functions. With learning cells, we can better protect cells to prevent infection and harmful effects. We can also observe cells to diagnose diseases, treat cells to heal illnesses, and even stop harming cells because of our choices or actions. All in all, the study of the cell and its components is a subject of importance for the livelihood of our world today. Taking and Bringing

Taking and Bringing Taking and Bringing Taking and Bringing By Maeve Maddox Carol Roberts Smith asks: Why can’t we ‘take’ anything anywhere anymore? Why do we have to ‘bring’ it. It sounds weird to me to say bring or brought. ‘I brought lunch to work’ I can live with, but ‘I have to bring this back to the store’ makes no sense to me. I’m taking it back to the store one way or another. Help me understand please. I notice it on TV a lot now too. Thanks! Both bring and take have numerous meanings. One can, for example, take medicine, take the Fifth, take a liking to, take it on the chin, take a partner, take in a stray, take up for a friend, take out a date, and take an oath. One can bring to bear, bring tears to the eyes, bring something up, and challenge someone to bring it on. The OED entry for take lists 93 numbered definitions. The one for bring has 27 numbered definitions. The definition that concerns us here is Number One: bring:  1. To cause to come along with oneself; to fetch. It includes ‘lead’ or ‘conduct’ (F. amener) as well as ‘carry’ (F. apporter); it implies motion towards the place where the speaker or auditor is, or is supposed to be, being in sense the causal of come; motion in the opposite direction is expressed by take (Fr. emmener, emporter).  Ã‚   When the words are used to express the conveying of something or someone to or from a given point, the choice between bring and take is clear: If the person or thing is going away from where you are, use take. If the object or person is coming to where you are, use bring. Some examples of the correct use of bring and take: Im taking this blender back to the store. Im taking my girlfriend to the movies. Please bring your wife to the party. Dont forget to bring me that book next time you visit. Jacquelyn Landis has also written a DWT post on bring and take for DWT. No title needed Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

No title needed - Research Paper Example In relation to the code of ethics, there are recommendations by ANA for the nurses to use credentials that are accepted, these credentials are gathered from the continuing nursing education, and code of ethics encourages participation of nurses in the advancement of the professionalism by contributing to continuing nursing education and development of knowledge. The con of the code of ethics proposed by ANA provides the assumption as a major role in the determination and implementation of the standards of critical nursing for continuing nursing education. It also develops the core of research-based professional knowledge, and the nursing is expected to act via the profession in the organization, participation in the creation and maintenance of equitable social and economic conditions of working (Gray, Bliss, Bookout, Colwell, Dutcher, Engberg, Evans et al., 2002). Therefore, the code of ethics does not encourage the continuing nursing education; instead it encourages the maintenance of professionalism. Need for Risk Assessment of Biotechnology Projects Essay

Need for Risk Assessment of Biotechnology Projects - Essay Example And also, the extend of risk varies from situation to situation. In the case of agriculture , the engineered species are applied on the field and hence major apprehensions would be the environmental impact and various issues related to the human health . When it is related to industrial products, the concerns would be more towards the worker safety and the potential threat to their health. The perception of risks and benefits of genetically modified organisms or plant varieties in the minds of public decides the extend of attempts that industries would have to involve in the test production and marketing of these products. Often the sense of apprehension that have permeated across the society about this high technology is due to the absence of proper scientific explanations and not the large scale tests (Wolt and Peterson, 2000) . The acceptability of these technologies by the public is related to the extend of knowledge transmitted. When this factor becomes limiting, the public has limited appreciation of technology and the emotive factors that often lead to the risk perception turns highly skewed (Wolt and Peterson, 2000). Thus , the public perception of the risks related to the biotechnological developments would be totally different from the knowledge led perception of the experts.

My Professional Moral Compass Essay Example for Free

My Professional Moral Compass Essay The code of ethics is an important part of the nursing foundation where nurses are directed to practice with compassion and respect for human dignity, responsibility, accountability, confidentiality and patient safety (ANA, 2012). Nurses are expected to follow this professional morals and values but also to practice their own personal standards as well. Values are one’s fundamental beliefs acquired from childhood through family and society. Morals are values that attribute to a system of beliefs. Ethics is the ability to make right and wrong decision based on adopted morals (Navran F. J., 2010). Every human is shaped according to their culture, spiritual and individual values that were instilled upon them by their family and community and in the nursing world, one nurses’ beliefs may differ from how others may practice nursing and handle ethical dilemmas. The culture this author grew up on expects the younger generation to be respectful, compassionate, responsible and be accountable for own mistakes. This author believes that every human is entitled to have the same equal treatment without prejudice. These characteristics shaped this author’s personal beliefs that as a nurse, this author has an obligation to the patients to provide them with such regard. Nurses are always impelled to give the best quality care to their patients and address all their concerns. This author feels responsible to keep patient safe, secured and comfortable at all times and keeping them informed regarding their treatments and condition along the way. Spiritual value has always been a challenging topic outside healthcare but this author learned that when a patient is in a difficult situation, beliefs could be set aside to find the best solution for the patient. There has been many controversies regarding blood transfusion and Jehovah Witness  religion and as a nurse, this author do not feel that it is appropriate to interfere with a patient’s decision if they opted to follow their spiritual obligation regardless of life and death situation. Every human has their own personal beliefs and own values which forms over their lifetime by analysis of their own observation. Nursing as a profession symbolizes many values such as honesty, responsibility, providing care to patients equally and with dignity (Gokenbach, 2012). The obligation every nurse has in the society and their patient is to provide the care they are entitled and respect their wishes to the best of their ability. Patients give their trust to their caregiver that they are receiving proper care, safe treatments and correct medications. This author believes that nurses have a moral obligation to be impartial with every patient that they encounter and to provide the same courtesy even with a difficult patient. For instance, when there is a patient who complains of pain at all times and the reports from other nurses states that the patient is a pain medication seeker, this author will not disqualify the patient’s complaints and still provide the proper care an d treatments needed and ordered by the physician. But this is a dilemma that can also place a nurse in a difficult situation since nurses are obligated to treat subjective pain complaints but finds this to be unsafe as it may lead to pain addiction. According to CDC, Drug overdose has been climbing since 1990 and most of the deaths connected to it were prescription drugs. When nurses are faced with this dilemma, the most ethical thing to do is to educate the patient on the risks, monitor the effect of the pain medication and offer pain management programs for their own safety. Ethical dilemmas provide a great amount of stress and anxiety to nurses, which can affect how they are able to provide safest care to their patients. One of the biggest ethical dilemmas that this author face in everyday practice is how doctors do not give enough time for their patients because of the amounts of patients they are to see in a given day. This author has encountered doctors who are not completely assessing their patients when they round and do not have the best bedside manner since they are always in a hurry. Many of the complaints received from patients were that doctors leave their room so fast and were unable to ask any questions related to their care. It puts nurses in a very difficult situation since nurses are not able to respond to patients with all honesty when being asked  about the doctor’s qualifications. How do you explain to the patient that a profitable company means protecting the people who bring in the profit and disregarding the fact that the patients are not getting what they deserve and the care that they need in the first place. Being that patients is this authors priority, this author continues to advocate for them by speaking with their doctors and other healthcare members connected with their care to find solution and answers. This author persevere in making healthcare management aware of the situations involving patient dissatisfactions with their doctors and hoping that it will one day be resolved. This author’s professional moral compass compels this author to provide the best care in a responsible, reliable, honest and compassionate way. Although faced with everyday dilemmas in nursing practice, the values this author has learned from nursing practice is what motivates this author to continue doing the right thing by remaining responsible, accountable, respectful and keeping patients safe. The everyday experience this author has gained from these dilemmas is what provides strength and knowledge in finding the direction this author wanted to take. Hole in the Wall

Hidden treasure in the big city One thing that all people can relate to is the love for wonderful food. You never see people not wanting to share a great dining experience with friends, family, or the world through social websites. In every person you see the excitement of trying new foods and restaurants. We have all had that perfect dining experiences that have made an imprint on our lives. Well what I want to share with you is a place that is hidden within the growing metro of Magmata in an unlikely place. This little place is a hole in the wall restaurant allied Baa Not, this little restaurant strives to deliver an authentic Vietnamese experience to their customers in the big city of Magmata. Let me go into the history of Baa Non briefly. As explained by the owner, this restaurant is being managed by two men a Filipino and a Vietnamese, who got all the dishes from his grandmother. Which also became the name since Baa Non meaner grandmother in the father's side in Vietnamese. Baa N on puts pride that they serve some of the best authentic Vietnamese food in manila.Well enough about the history, let's get down to business, I know what you all want o hear. Let's talk about the FOOD. Well in total I tried nine different dishes each with its own individual flavor that stood out from the rest. First off the bat would be the Pooh Boo which is a homemade beef noodle soup with spices and fresh herbs. The broth was tasty without being overpowering that would normally overpower the flavors of the spices and the fresh herbs but this was not the case you could taste every flavor in the dish. The balance of the dish is worth mentioning since you rarely get such good beef noodles which is not overpowering in taste. What also interested e was the fact that in the menu, there was a guide on how to eat the dish. First, you need to squeeze the lime on your pooh then add the bean sprouts and the basil after that, put the chili depending on your taste and finally, add the black bea n paste and stir or mix it. We decided to try the two kinds of spring rolls they had to offer, it was Go Con and Chaw Gig and the difference between the two is that Go Con was a fresh spring roll while the Chaw Gig was fried spring roll.Go Con is made of pork, shrimp and vermicelli attractively rolled in rice paper served with their famous meant sauce which I think was a marvelous peanut sauce. It had lots of flavor and also was not to thick a great accompaniment to the Go Con . The Chaw Gig is a mixture of ground pork, shrimp, taro, and black fungus wrapped and deep fried and served with fresh greens and traditional NCO AMA dipping sauce. Between the two spring rolls I have to put my money on the Go Con which was very well balanced and add that with the peanut sauce, you are asking for a recipe for success. We had four main dishes for our meal. We chose all the house-favorites/recommendations. The first of the dish was the Boo Luck Lack stir-fried spiced beef served with fried basil . The beef was cooked medium rare with sesame seeds and the beef had a good flavor and when eaten with the fried basil it blends since the basil was fried the intense flavor was mellowed to allow a good combination with the beef. The owner told us meat could not meet the standards of the owners. The second dish was the Ga Among which is grilled chicken in rich lemongrass marinade. The grilling of the chicken was amazing it was moist but also tasty and the taste of the lemon grass was intense which gave it a nice flavor. The third is had Soon Mongo Xa, pork rabbets flavored with their special lemongrass fusion, pan-fried and served with soy-chili sauce. This dish was a tad plain but I still got the good fusion of flavors but it was not strong enough to compare to the other two dishes I tried earlier. The That Hoe KHz Truing is a sweet-savory dish of pork and egg simmered in coconut Juice this dish I think was a mistake to order. It was very salty and didn't fit with all the other dishe s we ordered. The main course was good overall with three hits and a miss. We had Ban Dan Loon for our dessert. This dessert made everything worthwhile; the dish is eke a mixture of Spain-Spain and stating but with a filling in the middle topped with a coconut cream and sesame seeds. The dish was sweet but not too sweet to make you forget all the other flavors you had during your meal. I think this is one of the highlights of our dining experience. For the drink I had their new Vietnamese Blended Mocha which is not yet in their menu since the owner is still testing it out and is looking for feedback from guest before placing it on their menu. The flavor of the strong coffee and the nice sweetness of the chocolate made the drink a big plus n my books. The drink was balanced and very good since that day was quite hot.Well I guess this has to conclude recount of my visit to Baa Not. I will leave you with this, everyone has good dining experiences but it takes a good combination of servi ce and food to make this experience a memorable one and I must say Baa Non has made an impression of me. I for one am confident to call it a hidden treasure. So why not try it yourself to see if what I wrote is true. I bid thee farewell and hope you had as much fun reading as I had recalling and writing this article.

IKEA’s Global Sourcing Challenge Essay

1. Marianna Barner should decline the invitation for IKEA to have a representative appear on the upcoming forecast of the German video program. The producers of the documentary invited them to take part in a live discussion during the airing, and while this offer does sound beneficial for IKEA to educate the public and the producers of the current efforts taken to fight child labor, it would not be in their best interest. This is attributed to the fact that the producers refuse to let IKEA preview the video beforehand and that they are aware that the producers â€Å"planned to take a confrontational and aggressive approach† directly aimed at them. As a result, there is a very high possibility that the representative would then be blindsided with questions and then IKEA’s message of their efforts would not be portrayed accurately. Instead, IKEA should respond to the allegations by releasing their own statement allowing them to explain their efforts once they have had the opportunity to review all evidence and verify the credibility. 2. In regards to the supply contract that IKEA has with Rangan Exports, it would be best if Barner terminates the contract, should sufficient evidence prove that they do indeed use child labor. They stress the importance of taking responsibility for their suppliers, and in the IWAY (IKEA Code of Conduct), it clearly states that they do not accept Child Labourm, otherwise their contract will be terminated. The well-regarded company (Rangan) had signed an addendum that explicitly forbids the use of child labor, so it is important that IKEA upholds their standards and codes in order to maintain a fair position with their other suppliers. It would also be wise for her to then issue a statement or press release about the severed ties with the company, stating the reasons for the decision and maintaining integrity by upholding their own policies regarding child labor, so that the public and other suppliers see that they won’t tolerate unethical behavior or violations to their contra ct. 3. It is suggested that IKEA stays in India and continue operations. The long-term strategy that Barner should take regarding continued operations includes maintaining their code of conduct to uphold their image of being responsible for their suppliers and the environment, while also contributing to an improved quality of life for those in India.

Free Essays on Prohibition Of Underage Drinking

Dear Mothers Against Drunk Driving, As you know, alcohol abuse is a major concern to everyone, one that requires extensive problem-solving ideas to fix. However, this is not as problematic in non-temperance nations (nations in which the consumption of alcohol is not restricted). According to a survey conducted by Doctor Stanton Peele, an alcoholism and addiction expert, while the consumption of alcohol is greater in non-temperance nations (10.8 litres consumed per capita per annum compared to 6.6 in temperance nations in 1990), the number of AA groups per million persons is drastically lower (25 to 170), as well as the coronary mortality (deaths per 100,000 population), which comes to 272 in non-temperance nations in 1990, compared to the almost double in temperance nations, 421. (Peele) I propose that, in order to reduce alcohol abuse in the United States to a level equal to Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Luxembourg, and many other non-temperance nations, the U.S government should remove the federal la w which prohibits citizens under the age of twenty-one years old to drink alcoholic beverages. If this is done, young adults will feel less rebellious about alcohol. As well, if the drinking age was removed, parents would be able to teach their children how to drink responsibly, to avoid the suddeness of a person's "legal age." By doing this, the nation as a whole can begin to recognize that it is not alcohol, but the abuse of alcohol, that is the true problem. Making something illegal does not stop teenagers from doing it. In fact, because of their rebellious nature, teenagers are more likely to do something if it is illegal. In 1920, the Eighteenth Amendment, more commonly known as the Prohibition Act, made it illegal to import, export, transport, manufacture, or sell any alcoholic drink with a percentage of alcohol exceeding .5 (Pohelek 2). French Indefinite Relative Pronouns

French Indefinite Relative Pronouns Just as in English, a relative pronoun links a relative clause to a main clause. This is true for both relative pronouns and indefinite relative pronouns. The difference is that regular relative pronouns have a specific antecedent, but indefinite relative pronouns do not. If you dont understand relative pronouns, I highly recommend that you go back to that lesson before studying this one. There are four* French indefinite relative pronouns; each form is used only in a particular structure, as summarized here. Note that theres no one-to-one equivalent for these words - depending on context, the English translation may be what or which: Subject ce qui   what Direct object ce que/qu   what Object of de** ce dont  Ã‚  which, what Object of a preposition** quoi  Ã‚  which, what *Theres a fifth indefinite relative pronoun, quiconque, but it is rare and complicated, so I address it in a separate lesson. **Remember that French verbs often require different prepositions than English verbs, so you really need to be careful with ce dont and quoi - its not always obvious which one is correct.
